LANAP® for a Minimally Invasive alternative to gum surgery

LANAP is an FDA-approved procedure that is used to treat moderate to severe gum disease. Unlike traditional surgery that involves a scalpel, this minimally invasive treatment uses a precisely focused laser that targets only the diseased tissue while leaving the healthy gum tissue intact.

The laser removes harmful bacteria and at the same time promotes healing by utilizing the body’s own ability to seal the healthy gum tissue back to the root of the tooth once the procedure is complete.

Dr. Vaisman is highly trained and experienced in providing LANAP therapy to gently and effectively combat gum disease, and he is excellent at keeping his patients comfortable throughout the procedure.

Benefits of LANAP

LANAP has many advantages over traditional surgery. It is much less traumatic and invasive as there is no cutting, bleeding or stitching.

LANAP treatment is less time-consuming. While traditional surgery requires four to eight visits as well as additional appointments for suture removal and check-ups, LANAP can be completed in two 2-hour visits and two follow-up visits. The recovery time for LANAP is typically under 24 hours, and most patients are able to eat whatever they want following the procedure.

Dr. Vaisman recommends LANAP because its minimally invasive nature promotes the maximum preservation of your original gum tissue. Even patients with health issues such as diabetes, HIV and hemophilia, as well as those taking blood-thinning medications, can receive LANAP.

Laser surgery has been found to provide long-lasting results. A study showed that 98% of patients who receive LANAP remain stable five years after their treatment.

LANAP Procedure

Dr. Vaisman will perform an oral exam to assess the extent of the gum disease and to determine whether you’re a candidate for LANAP. He will take the needed time to discuss your concerns, explain your treatment options and answer any questions. If necessary, he will take digital X-rays of your mouth to get an accurate picture of its condition.

Dr. Vaisman will explain the procedure so you know what to expect on the day of your treatment.
